You mean Abalone shell, Splint? (yeah, I checked the link now)
I have some small pieces, and bought a jewelers saw to cut it - but havent tried using it for inlays yet. I am pretty sure Martin (Madburg) could give you some tips with that if you PM him.
Also guitar makers use it for frets inlays and more, so there are prolly tons of youtubes for that. The little dots you can get in various diams would certainly add some flair to just about anything.
The really good quality stuff can get pricey.
