While I appreciate Japanese woodwork and have been inspired and greatly impressed by the works of their 'Living National Treasure' - the Preservers of Important Intangible Cultural Properties, shou sugi ban or Yakisugi - the phrase the Japanese use, just doesn't appeal to me. I think its origins were in 'protecting' the outside of wooden buildings. It's not something I 'wood' ever consider doing to any of my boxes. But then we are all different, and we do as we please, and appreciate different things - long may it stay that way!
