I think it has its place. For example, let’s say you’re working quickly on the job-site and don’t have time to consider whether there is a defect below the surface such as a knot that could bind things up on you.
There’s a difference between having a manly story to tell and losing out on a paycheck because you have to take time off.
If I was back to working summers with my cousins for my Uncle, renovating burnt-down houses in the 90’s, I would have jumped at the chance to have anti-kickback. Time was money then, and us kids worked sun-up to sun-down, for zero pay (it was all for work ethic, we got sent to the Uncle in the summer to get whipped into shape).
The more we complained throughout the year, the more likely we were to be joining Uncle in the summer. If we were good, it was optional, otherwise mandatory.
When we came back from summer with Uncle, we behaved ourselves for months. Nary a bad word or a slick thought passed our minds, after being broken by that man.
A man that is 4-foot-8 but can whoop you good. Uncle was fierce.
