I can handle all the abuse yazall like to toss at me about my penchant for Fe$tool stuff
however, it's nice to discover that my frugality is not always wasted.
Don’t know whether any of youz come across the topic of the cordless drill kickback, but I just came across this video today
Don't be fooled by the spruiking in the video name/title... NOT EVERY drill has the feature I am highlighting, most have "workarounds".
If you don't watch the video (reminds me of most of my overdrawn presentations), the story goes that when you are drilling with a large bit/hole-saw and it binds, the drill twists in your hand and will either scare the bjesus outta ya or it will be wrenched out of your hand and with a bit of luck, that happens before any physical damage.
Apparently the better brands will immediately stop and start flashing when they detect an abnormal sudden sideways twist…
Rushed down to give it a try and had to record my findings…
Woo-Hoo…
Just put a sling on your arm if you’re gonna rush out and try it… or follow the advice in the top video (not mine)… I nearly dislocated my shoulder trying the manual twist on my Makita and Ryobi drills, Chubby move over,
PS. This doesn’t apply to impact drivers (the video covers it), but then again you would use a hex ended bit and probably not too heavy drill bit.
Late Edit:
I have read (UGH!) that most brands have a model that sports this antikickback feature, however, they are at the upper end and you are only looking at pennies difference between them and Fe$tool... and Fe$tool has Bluetooth!
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
safety features are for girls ducks. a real woodworker accepts a broken wrist or arm as a badge of being a "real"man !!!! now when it comes to ducks, god only knows 🤔😁
working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.
I think it has its place. For example, let’s say you’re working quickly on the job-site and don’t have time to consider whether there is a defect below the surface such as a knot that could bind things up on you.
There’s a difference between having a manly story to tell and losing out on a paycheck because you have to take time off.
If I was back to working summers with my cousins for my Uncle, renovating burnt-down houses in the 90’s, I would have jumped at the chance to have anti-kickback. Time was money then, and us kids worked sun-up to sun-down, for zero pay (it was all for work ethic, we got sent to the Uncle in the summer to get whipped into shape).
The more we complained throughout the year, the more likely we were to be joining Uncle in the summer. If we were good, it was optional, otherwise mandatory.
When we came back from summer with Uncle, we behaved ourselves for months. Nary a bad word or a slick thought passed our minds, after being broken by that man.
A man that is 4-foot-8 but can whoop you good. Uncle was fierce.
