Rick, The butternut came from Wall Lumber Co. Mayodan NC.
Butternut is Jugans cinerea comes from eastern USA. Also called white Walnut, Oilnut, Nogal, Nogal blanco, and nuez meca. Soft density, medium texture, usually fairly straight grain. Fairly common in these parts.
Enjoyed working with it and usually keep a few bd.ft. on hand.
