The wood used is really eye catching and I'm guessing hard to fully capture in pictures.  Could you share how you attached the end pieces on the first board?

The large one piece board is Camphor Laurel which is a designated weed tree, though woodworkers love it for the colours, figure and patination of the timber. 
There are so many beautiful Aussie hardwoods, that board was made up from offcuts; glued with titebond 3 along with biscuiting. Works a treat. 
I sand the boards to 320/400 the use the Kustom Grit set #1 (50000G) & set #2 (100000G) food grade polishing paste.
