Barb.... scratch stocks are awesome. I encourage you to give it a try. Yes they make profiles in wood like what I show. The profile on the blade is cut into the wood by slowly moving it back and forth. It's actually micro planing the wood. I highly recommend Lee Valley's. You can buy blades or make your own. But buying them there's a limit. So I make them out of pieces of bandsaw blades.
