It occurs to me I neglected to point out something VERY obvious, but which I figured out only after playing with the unit and altering how it is used, which was to pressurize the paint pot by charging it from a small compressor:
Using a compressor to apply pressure to the two quart cup, as noted, totally altered the performance of the pot, because it pushed the paint to the gun, rather than relying on low pressure vacuum created by the HVLP to pull the thick paint from the can.
Because pressurizing the can works so well, one does not have to drop the big bills on the 2 quart pot. Instead, one can use a regular paint pot, which is cheaper and can, often, be found for sale used on various sites.
A paint pot would be more cumbersome to deal with, but would mean being able to go two to four times as far between refills.
