Okay, I've got this one on my list, but the build decision will depend on how the grand kids warm up to these, it looks like a tough one!
Depending on the age of the grandkids, I would recommend the Tangram (I called it Anchor No.8) as it permint hundreds of imaginary combinations... and adding magnets raises it to a greater appreciation level.  I have 2 versions, a single 3mm piece layer with a 6mm x 3mm magnet through the middle and a 2 3mm layers with the magnet through the bottom one (except for 1 piece that has to be flipped for some configurations). I've magnetised and magnetic sheet fitted all these types of puzzles

I have also added a .9mm thick magnetised sheet to help the pieces stick to the base when not flat,
For close friends' kids, I also add an A4 magnetised sheet as many tan configurations are quite tall.   

If the GKs are older, this AKKU is an ideal puzzle.
