RobsCastle ..... In your our workshop have you got a welder?
Please ask me more questions... while fishing this out of a cupboard for a picture I found I had this I forgot about, I even managed to acquire the aluminium attachment for my welder (mig/arc/aluminium)... Can arc, suck at MIG. Haven't tried aluminium, always cut to decrease not weld to grow... and would have to RTFM.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
