To me you have to price your item – whatever it is – according to what the market allows. Pricing a cutting board at $150 in a market where $50 is the going rate won’t get you sales. I also find that my prices have to be consistent from show to show because some people “do the fairs” on Cape Cod in the summer and they do comparison shop. The most important thing is word of mouth and a satisfied customer. I agree that having some $10-20 items is important. Last year a woman from California saw my $20 cheese boards and bought 10 of them for Christmas gifts for her book club. Would she have bought them at $30, $40… who knows. These boards don’t cost me much to make and I can use a lot of scraps too on them.
As for doing this for a living… it really can take the fun out of it!!!
