re: POWER WAGON
Those things were tough.
While in high school, about 1961, I ran across a WWII or Korean War veteran US Army ambulance on a Power Wagon body. It was in very good condition mechanically, bu the body was rusted and was held onto the frame by 2 steel cables that were welded to the frame and ran up and across the body and down to the frame on the opposite side. Naturally, this made it more appealing. The price was $50. Went home to get the cash and the folks hit the ceiling. It would have been an adventure.
Another time, I was in the barber shop and an old codger came in and was telling the barber about selling the timber off some mountain land he owned. He said the land was only worth about $10 per acre afterward. I immediately told him I would take 10 acres, straddling a trout stream. At home, I was lectured about how worthless mountain land was. About 5 years later, the US Forest Service bought the entire valley for $200 per acre, some areas more. Dammit.
