I saw yours earlier and planned to make it after the bench got finished. I love the ebony and wish i had a ton of it. I see a lot of pieces from Greene n Greene using buttons of ebony. I absolutely despise them. People should give up on Greene n Greene, it had its day in the sun, move on, create new, make things in the now for the future. I can think of fifty things that I would love to have the ebony to make them with. Don’t get me wrong I love purple heart, but a year from now its going to be just another brown, the ebony only seems to get darker, love it.

When making the Ebony part I started with a block 2″ × 2″ × 8″. I split the block along the grain, following it on all four sides. The grain runs so straight and true and very tight. This will make it very dimensionally sound. It will remain square and straight forever. I only wish that I had enough to make the entire square from ebony. It has become my favourite material to make things with.

How did you square it?

I put my combination square on it while the epoxy was setting up to make it square.

This was one of the most fun projects I have made in quite a while. I think I am going to make some as gifts Pat, I know a lot of trades people that would love one. They are so handy as well. But not quite as handy as a pocket in your underwear!

That’s a nice one and a real show piece ,looks good on that new bench and will get a lot of looks .
You better watch it carefully because I need one too LOL.
