Weathervane build #2

I am making this airplane out of cedar, actually fence boards from Home Depot. I go through them and get the best I can.

To make the wings, tail and all the flat parts I resawed the boards into strips and sent them all through my thickness sander in order to make plywood.

I made some 3 ply and 5 ply. 3 ply is 1/4" thick plies x 3/4" thick. 5 ply is 1/8" thick plies x 5/8" thick.

This one became the wing.

They look a lot better after I trim the ends off flush.

From the store the boards are roughly 5/8" thick. Most wound up just under 1/2" after the drum sander. I glued up several 2 plies of that for when I make the body of the plane.

I just felt like making a C 130 and jumped in. Makings plans as I go. I'll find out later what mistakes I'm making now.

It's going to be fun to follow along!

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I've been using Turtle Wax for this. It has not been a problem. Sometimes it leaves a little dry residue.

An airplane weather vane?  Add some radio controls and you can change the direction the wind is blowing from.

--Nathan, TX. Hire the lazy man. He may not do as much work but that's because he will find a better way.
