This is part 3 in a 3 part series: House Projects

  1. Miscellaneous Home Work
  1. New Lamp Shades
  2. Upstairs Bathroom Update

On one of my recent projects, I mentioned starting to renovate our Upstairs Bathroom...
The Bathroom had a False Wall in it that was shoddily made and, as it turns out, largely unnecessary...

That was all torn out which revealed the Vent Pipe,... and not much else!

That was reconfigured into a slightly shorter, Bathroom "Island"...

A Mini Built-in was built into the Island to accommodate the Toilet Plumbing...

I'll have fun framing that little space later!
Paints came out last week after the wall and ceiling Scars had been repaired and sanded...
The Ceiling first then the Walls were done... This Room was THIRSTY!! A whole gallon of paint was applied to the walls (so far)
I'll have to get more this week...
I have two more trim colors to add, but would rather wait until the walls are all set...
Meanwhile, the Lumber for the Top of the Bathroom Island was already purchased so I went in that direction...
Beautiful Day today, so I worked outside on the deck for a change...
I bought two 8' - 2 by's, one 2" x 10", one 2" x 12".... 1st) They were cut to length, over-long... When they are installed, I'll cut both of them to length at once... 2nd) The pieces had to be ripped down to 8" and 10 1/2" to fit... My Shop is not made to handle larger lumber like this!
the Circular Saw with a piece of trim as a guide was the only way that I could handle it with any hope of success... And 3rd) A Hole had to be cut half out of each piece, to accommodate the Vent Pipe... I had made a template for that which worked out very well...

The half-circle was cut from the first piece with my old B&D Jig Saw, but when I went to cut the second one, the saw had seized!
Well, "where there's a will..."

The Coping Saw worked quite well actually!
Anyway, four months later, we find ourselves here...

All the Carpentry is done, straight finish work from here...
Have to:  go over the Yellow walls again...
Apply the two trims... In this Old House, Neutral Grays (Light and Dark) have been used to tie the whole house together....
Trim out the little Built-in...
Still a ways to go... sigh...
Happy Halloween Kids!

Lot of good work there! But I'd hide that vent pipe, personally.

The Other Steven

yeah i agree with DL !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Not finished yet Guys (and I thought Steampunk was the latest thing?! Lol)
At first I was planning to build a "Column" around it... But (I reasoned) if I can get a good enough fit around the pipe, top & bottom, I'm going to paint it!!
The fits came out well enough, so... the pipe will be light gray
