Another Mahagony and Walnut Keepsake Box

I made a keepsake box this last Christmas for a co-worker made of mahogany and walnut. I never used the wood combo before but it was a big hit. So here is another one made for a birthday gift for my mother.

One thing that everyone liked on the Christmas gift box was the contrast between the two woods. They complement each other very well. I’m a fan as well as my mother. So Happy Birthday Mom!

Made from solid walnut and mahogany. Finished in satin lacquer and lined in ivory velvet.

Very nice box, I agree the woods work very well together as does the velvet bottom, nice choice.

This came out great. I missed this one because I wasn’t here yet. Which is the walnut and which is the mahogany? How did you attach the corners to the box parts. I’d like to use that technique. Can you attach hinges to the lid with this type of box.

The legs and lid pull are walnut. The body of the box is mahogany. The legs are attached to the body of the box with dowels. Yes you can hinge this type of box. You would have build the lid to accommodate a hinge. Here I sized the lid 1/2” smaller than the box and rabbeted it to fit

I’ve always like this style of box. I made something similar for a swap last year. 👍🏼 l really like the slight angles on the corner pieces, and the pull is awesome. Great look!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thank you
