TWCA Cam Handle

I finally got a Nic Westerman TWCA cam. I have tried several times to purchase one in the past, but as soon as the next batch appears on his web site, they're gone faster than a politician's promise on election day. I ended up back-ordering one and since I now had it in my hand, it was time to make a handle for it.

I started by ripping a 40mm2 section of European beech, 14" long. Then I planed that into an octagon. After rounding over one end to fit in the palm of my left hand, I tapered the last 3" of the other end for my right hand to grip. I made sure I left enough of a shoulder in case I want to use it with a neck strap at some point in the future. After easing all the corners, I drilled a hole in the tapered end to accept the TWCA cam shaft and epoxied it in. The finish is BLO followed by clear Briwax.

The tool has great authority in use and leaves a wonderful finish on the wood. I'm looking forward to using it on a real project.
