winding sticks

I have been using a cheap pair of short levels as winding sticks but no more. I tried to explain how they work but my brother kept focusing on the bubble. I wanted to make some for a while but finally raided the scrap bucket. All hand tool build and a fun project. I made one mistake (noticeable) can you spot it? It was a Paul Sellers follow along so to speak.

Those look nice! Well done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nicely done.

I kept having trouble discerning which side was flat and which have the taper of slant when laid flat on the bench. As I was marking the maple inlays I realized I was on the flat instead of the bevel like the walnut inlay. Past the point of no return I continued, still very functional and if I kept my mouth shut it could have been my secret.
I wouldn't have noticed and don't see that it makes any difference at all anyway 😁  As long as the top and bottom are parallel on both sticks, it doesn't really matter if the faces are vertical or sloped.  I'll allow it 😆

Excellent job on these and they'll be much more fun to use than your levels.
yeah i agree, i dont think the face angle really matters ?

They do look a bit more traditional then $8.99 plastic levels. Next up is a saw bench, I signed up for semester 1 of the hand tool school with Shannon Rogers while it was on sale. Even though I feel I am beyond "How to cross cut" I figured I may as well follow along to get the most out of it. The irony is that I am participating in the hand tool school but made the Paul Sellers version, don't tell shannon.
Pottzy Pottzy Pottzy..... are you on the level?

All spirit level vials and bubble vials contain a curved radius, even though it cannot always be seen. This allows the bubble to move to the highest point of the radius as gravity acts on the liquid inside the vial once it is level.

Plus I still use my Swedish adjustable level

fully adjustable in both aspects.

Made in Sweden at the industrial town of Eskilstuna, and possibly older than both of us.
Eskilstuna was known as the Sheffield of Sweden

Nice work on the sticks. I don't use mine that often, but they are useful when I need them.
