A number of years ago a neighbor asked for help assembling a backyard play structure for his two young boys. We spent the day trying to decipher the instructions and finished with only 3 or 4 pieces left over which we thought was pretty good. Well when we got it in place and it was time for builders trials we found that the boys leg length didn't match the provided ladder rungs. We all know there's nothing worse than standing on the grass looking up at this awesome new fort and not being able to get up there. Back to the drawing board. The solution was inspired by a sailboat companionway ladder I had built in the 1980's. You navy guys will recognize it as an incline ladderway, this time with hand-grabs and 7" riser spacing for shorter sailors. Even added hard maple non-skid treads for playtime on rainy days. Crisis averted!
