Thanks, folks. Ianwater, the leopard wood/ ebony web is an applique, glued directly to the birch plywood lid.
Thorreain, the inside is currently full of my youngest daughter’s art supplies and not in my possession. I built this vessel back in the 80’s, then refurbished it a couple of years ago, adding the applique, the leopard wood, additional ebony plugs along the top perimeter, and maple base extensions.
