Christmas Ornaments

Hello!   It's been a while since I have been on the site with any new work, although I have been keeping an eye on all of the fine work being done by everyone else.  Now that summer is over, the call of the shop has definitely increased and so I will be spending more time there.
Also, with the Christmas season close upon us, I have started my shop time with a number of ornaments for the grandkids and their families.  I have added a laser to the  shop and so most of the cutout work was done with an xTool D1Pro 10W laser and then lots and lots and lots of painting.     Most are made from 3mm and 6mm basswood or birch plywood.  All paint is acrylic and the top coat is acrylic gloss.  The Tooth fairy boxes are a design that Kenny on ACUTABOVE Woodworking did on one of his videos and so I must give credit to him for the overall design.  The engraving is mine and the addition of the googly eyes is also my add.  All in all, it's been a busy 3 weeks but I'm finished with the ornaments (until my wife remembers someone else I should add to the list).  The group of 9 are for the kids at my daughter-in-law's day care and the Daniel ornament is for my next door neighbor who is a car guy.  The car on the ornament is an Infinity clip art.  I will say that making these gave me a lot of hands on experience with the laser and I am finding many uses for it on future projects. . especially for making detail engraves and so on.  [As a note, I would say that if anyone is thinking about getting a laser, go with the highest wattage you can afford.  I went with 10W not knowing diddly about the concept and wish I had gone with the 20W or greater.  the 10W does a fine job and certainly gives a high degree of detail and fine work but more power would cut down on the carve time and provide the ability to go with thicker materials.  Also, it would give a better ability to engrave nonferrous metals.   you may not need the higher wattage every time but it is nice to have it available if need arises.  Just my opinion.]
Great looking stuff! And you’re absolutely right about the laser wattage. I’d point out that it’s important to find the actual output wattage of the laser, and not just the stated wattage. Especially with off shore models, they are vastly different. And I second the notion of 20W at a minimum. 👍🏼

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

These are such nice gifts!!

Appreciate the note on your laser.  That's on my "someday" list as so many applications show up in posted projects!
Great grandkids deserve great gifts.   Well done!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thanks for the kind comments everyone.   They were work but also a lot of fun.  It was nice to get back into the shop.  And now, on ward and upward to ……????  🤣😂
