Keepsake Box in Sapele and Maple

I made this as a potential jewelry box for one of my granddaughters, but then, I changed direction (made her and another granddaughter the Pagoda style boxes, which I also posted).  This box is similar to some other I've made in that it's made from two primary woods (Sapele and Maple) with Wenge used as an accent wood.  It's made using hand-cut dovetail joinery, and the lid sets inside the top using brass rods for hinges.  The tray is made from 1/4" Sapele and Maple, and it rests on Maple rails in the box.  The tray's width is cut slightly less than the inside box width, and it also has rounded bottom edges that, together, allow it to go in and out of the narrowed opening caused by the inset lid.

Gorgeous!  The details work perfectly with the contrasting wood. What did you use for finish?  Looks amazing.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

I started using Odie's a while back and really like it.  Pricy, but as with your project, the results are great.
Good looking box.   Like the design.

The details on this box -- the dovetails, the transition between the woods being directly on the miter, and the selection of wood species is all spot on - are all excellent work. Beautiful box, great work.
Some young ladies will appreciate GD's hard work and craftsmanship. Nice job.

Kerry - Working with wood, the smell the feel, is such a joy, its a meditation of sorts.
