Idea from magazine article.  Some adjustments to fit tall and shorter bottles and to lift henge.
Quilted sapelle lid, Brazilian cherry case.  Made a couple of these as gifts.

Nice box. How does the lift lock into place? I'm thinking some type of rod to pivot on? The lock into place is just fuzzy though.
that is an elegant box tim. love how it lifts the bottles. the wood is stunning.  ill have to make one those.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Design was in Woodworkers Journal or wood Magazine a few months back but I changed a few things.  I used a lid lift hinge that locks in place when opened, On left side in first pic. The article author used ball locks to hold the lid which I didnt like. Only needed lid lift hinge on one side. The bottle lift is attached to the lid which is hinged along back of top.  I'll get some pics tomorrow.

That sapelle is beautiful! Great design too…yes, more pics please!!!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

That's a great gift idea and some beautiful wood! Is the base sapelle as well?

Thanks for adding the additional details Tim. After you mentioned where you got it, I looked back, and found it. Evidently I got that issue, and never got to look it over. Surgery, and a Cancer diagnosis kinda messed me up for a while. It's a shame they shuttered the Journal. I always liked it. Seems the day of a woodworking magazine is passing us by.
Really nice. The choice of wood for the lid looks amazing.
