What happens when you buy a West Elm couch that has no back? People lean back, topple over. You get your scrap Ash can build a modern style backing. For the finish, I used a black gel stain. But I wanted to add depth to the color. So I first put a merlot dye stain. Sealed it. Then then the black gel.

That looks fantastic. Is it sturdy? It looks kind of small for bracing. Great design, either way.

The cushions were designed not to need a backing. So it doesn’t have to be the main brace. But it’s pretty strong hold. I have 4 anchor points that you can’t see
