i have seen this type of design stool before but with two steps or with a hinge. Instead of a hinge I used a dowel into a mortise.

Nice design alteration making it more easily to store and compact .
A few construction picture would be nice .

Very nice step stool and I love the folding step, a great space saver. Ordinarily I might be a bit skeptical about the screws in the end grain of hinge dowels, but I can see that this is not an issue in this case as the step is fully supported with it’s own feet. Nice work!

i am just curious how you would have attached the dowels. they are also glued on. i tend to over do stuff by glue and screwing
