This is cedar heart wood. I originaly was going to make a small opening vessel with a domed lid but when started to make the indention for the bottom I ran into some problems i.e. punk & a big inclusion I knew it would leave me with a soft spot on the bottom. So I decided to make the neck the foot and take out as much as possible for the bowl, because this pieces grain was to nice to waste. I sanded it to 600 grit then 0000 steel wool with compound. it came out of the drying box just like it went in. the over all form turned out better than I had hoped it would so I guess this is one of those happy coincidences.

look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's a big hunk of the bowl I was turning.

nice save
