This is a urn I made for my Uncle after he passed away. My Aunt described how he wanted and then expected it to be ready in two Weeks! So I started with bone dry OLD log and it was like turning a piece of concrete. This is the only wood I have ever turned that actually threw Sparks and forced me to spend more time sharpening than turning. But the end results were well worth it. This was truly a labor of love and an honor to be asked to create.
look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's a big hunk of the bowl I was turning.
What a transformation!
Worth every effort you put in. It looks great.

Nice work and fantastic wood too. It looks like mother-of-pearl. I think there must have been some minerals in that wood to cause sparks.

Thank y’all for the compliments, it probably was minerals. The land around here is old blow sand with lots of iron ore. Mesquite is a beautiful wood and I will be turning more of it because it’s everywhere around here .

This is a beautiful piece. Mesquite is a great turning wood, and your urn used it very well.
