Congrats on your new planer. Even though you don’t have jointer, you can make a sled that will allow you to plane a boar or plank on both sides and to get an even thickness. If you search the web for planing sleds you will probable find a lot of them. If you subscribe to Fine Woodworking website you can search for one there as they had an article on one some years ago.
