that's basically what I told my wife too. The problem with trying to find a good larger lathe on the used market is that by the time someone buys a nice larger lathe they're already pretty committed to turning so it's either typically an estate or family members selling it. Unlike entry level lathes which seem to be fun for a few months and then get sold a couple years later...
I felt lucky to find my Nova 3000 for $300 and it was about 4 blocks away from me, no less. Guy got it form his dad, used it a few times and the original VFD blew up on it. He bought a new one , wired it up and blew that one up. So listed it for about what he paid for the VFD he blew up lol Thankfully I got it right my first try 🤣
