I can’t shed any light on why those things happened, but I can make a suggestion… write your project description in Word, Notepad, Notes, or any equivalent. When you’re done, copy/paste the text into the “new project page here,” insert any embedded photos (adding placeholder text in the description makes it easier to know where to place the photos is a big help), and then post the project.

I’ve learned to do this any time I enter a non-trivial amount of text into any web page form. It’s too easy to end up losing everything, as you described.
