Any good BAC meter...

Boys and Girls,

I seem to have delved into lifesaving devices after posting the defib and now this… though this can be self-administered.

I hear rumours that people believe I may partake in alcoholic beverages, and feeling guilty, I decided to try mine out before I drove downtown to get some take away and visit the bottleshop caskshop...  It registered 0.061,
and with our limit of <0.05, though I felt completely sober,  I thought it would be a tad prudent to let it drop a tad before getting behind the wheel. Not being super hungry and no vino left in the cask, I chained myself to my couch for two hours knowing I lose about 0.01 every hour.
Tested after that sitting ordeal and was a shade under 0.04, whereby I put on my running thongs, swapped out of the nighty and made a bee line to the bottleshop takeaway.
Blow me down, I was pulled up by a booze bus at approximately 3:30pm in the backstreets of Churchill (was the main drag, but all streets are back streets)… Shitting bricks because of having already self-registered, I was relieved to hear that I was 0.03 something, and after being made to wait 10 minutes, the next test showed I was on the way down and was then permitted to drive on.

Got SWMBO and myself,  a well garlicked chicken kabab (ok, one each) and decided to get 3 casks so I don’t have to repeat my sit-in in the immediate future.

Seriously, if you drink, these are great investments.  While I’m not necessarily advocating any particular brand, I do not recommend getting cheap ones, and the more expensive ones can be and should be regularly calibrated.  Don’t believe the hype that a finger down the throat is a good measuring stick.

I don’t drink (let me finish) if I’m on the road behind the wheel, so these are only good for me before I chose to get in the car, however, I do carry this one in my car’s medical box,
for other idiots that are contemplating to run the gauntlet… good time for a
job.

yeah i drink.................once in awhile, maybe everyday or so !  but if i go out it's two drinks and im out, got what we call here a 502, meaning you get free meal a accommodations for the night ! so i have no need for that device !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I was a victim of a 12 month lost license back in the mid 80's... I quickly learnt that balancing 3 casks on a push bike when raining is no fun... now I just usually drink at home, but on occasions one must leave the nest unplanned... and it saved me this time.

What happened to the good old days when you were considered a hero when you got home after a dozen beers without a new ding in the car... the cops have lost their sense of sympathy.

Handheld meters require an occasional calibration....is there a plan for that?  Here in Iowa, on your second DUI, you get one of these attached to your ignition switch, and you are require to blow in it to start the car.  I arrested a guy once that was driving with one of these, and I asked him how he did that, and he said the he had his sober passenger blow into it....I asked him why he didn't just let him drive, and he said that he didn't trust him with his car.......pretty sure there was never a chance he was going to work for NASA.

It is recommended that they should be calibrated every 6 months for theoretical "100% accuracy", however 100% is bullshit for these handhelds, so I compromise and get mine every year... though it's not that often I want (or have the need) to drive after a session and need to be tested...

I don't flip a coin when I'm near the 0.05 mark... c'mon, whatcha expect from,
