Buy a Shaper Origin for $1,899
I received a Gen 2 Origin recently. It represents a significant improvement over the Gen 1 in terms of display and scan quality. It really is very impressive. Other than that, the Gen 1 remains a perfectly viable machine, and probably will be for years to come. Eventually there will be Gen 2 and later-only firmware upgrades, but even then, the old units will still work.
It's probably not enough make the average person dump their Gen 1 and rush to buy the Gen 2. The gotta-have-the-newest crowd will make the move. I only have the new model because I do sales demos. If I'd paid for the Gen 1, I'd be sticking with it.
Now that the Gen 2 Origin is out, Shaper Tools is offering factory certified and reconditioned Gen 1 Origins.

Rich that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing. I love my Gen 1 and it’s a regular part of my builds. I don’t think I knew you did work with Shaper. Cool! Thank you for sharing.
For anyone on the fence *cough* Pottz *cough* this is a great opportunity. It’s an easy to use machine with a short and shallow learning curve.

I should add that many of these will surely be brand new, not reconditioned. The Shaper Tools sales model requires that a dealer like the one I work with keep two units in inventory. As soon as the registration goes in for one that's sold, they send a replacement unit right away. When the upgraded model shipped, they had the dealers return any Gen 1 inventory. That means that there were lots of NIB units sent back. I'm sure some of the units that go out will be among that group.
I also don't know how many are available at this price, so anyone who wants one badly shouldn't wait around.
