Need Suggestion For Bedroom Boxes
Hi all
I am thinking of making some wooden storage boxes for my children’s bedroom. I was looking at sliding lid opening but a little unsure how these are made. I saw some examples on sites customcraftltd but couldn’t find any plans.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Where are the boxes going to be stored? Are you going to slide them under the bed, on a shelf or closet or on the the floor? Also, how big will they be.
Easiest access will be a simple hinged lid and latch of some kind. If the box is relatively large, the sliding lid would a be a pain because you need twice the size of the box to slide the lid out and to get at the contents at the end. The easiest way to make a sliding lid is to cut a groove slightly wider than the thickness of the top, using a router or table saw with dado blade.

--Nathan, TX. Hire the lazy man. He may not do as much work but that's because he will find a better way.
as lazyman said a sliding lid would be more for a small box not anything large like a toy box. but more info is definitely needed here.

If they are going under a bed, I would suggest putting some type of wheels on them - that wont scratch floors.

I am not a fan of kids on boxes for kids. I made several large boxes for my kids. They were 12 x 24 x 16" tall with carpet casters on them and a thick, long rope handle on one end. They were made from 3/4" pine with dovetailed corners and heavy duty bottom. We had the kids pick up toys and put them in at bed time. The rolling boxes were often used for pulling each other around, as a fort, hiding place and many other things. They all survived my three kids.
It is interesting to note that a large cardboard box is often a kids favorite toy.

Now a Tambour lid would make you #1 dad and they are really cool... Hit Norman for some ideas.
