What a beautiful piece of mahogany to showcase the top! And the story that goes with it is priceless. I hope you write down the provenance of the piece so future generations will know the history of it.
It is hard to believe what people paint. I cringe every time I see a nice piece of furniture painted to go with today’s trends. I’ve restored a number of pieces that someone painted in the 60s and 70s when “antiquing” was popular. I attribute such “poor taste” to just being young and foolish. I love wood and want it to show. If one wants painted furniture, use plywood!
