I had my hopes pretty high. Not only was I was very excited about making the piece, it was well into the 6 figure range so my whole year would have been made.
Because there are so few public art commissions, works is subjective etc it's always a bit of a tough gig. Especially as you get emersed in a concept. But even if one place rejects something someone else may go for it. My first year I submitted a piece and was rejected in favour of a large crate. Talk about disappointing! But then that same piece went on and has been leased by 6 different municipalities over the years, including the first one that rejected the piece.
