Urban Ecology

I've gotten some good feedback here for my work on here so I thought I'd show how most of them start.
"Urban Ecology"... this is a sneak peak at my proposal sketches for a public art piece. There was an open call for artists made several months ago and I have made it to the shortlist stage. She will be life sized and made from carbon steel, corten steel and copper. I have a couple of different sketches of the woman and if I actually get the contract I will hire a model, dress her up and decide on the final position etc then. Kind of like Cinderella! lol  I'll need to find someone that has a similar body type etc..
Wish me luck! It seems to take about ten proposals to land one (and I'm due!) so fingers crossed! I now need to clean up the sketches and do the boring part of the proposal... description, numbers, etc. ..   *edit.. down below it asks the style... what would you call my style?
*update... I've combined elements of both sketches into one. I'll be submitting the proposal next week. Fingers crossed

Good luck!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

That would be a beautiful piece for sure!

I also would struggle to label your style - I know that's not much help...
Thanks for the well wishes! I've just being calling my style "west coast" which could be anything... and it fits my business name lol

Angellos

This is beautiful!

Can I mention one thing?  She looks uncomfortable.

Good luck with the competition.

Nice sketch. What was the criteria that you had to adhere to for this project? For ecology it looks quite sexy. Boing!!!

I missed this introduction to your project back in January. Did you win the bid?

Dr. Quackner

The location is a roundabout with roads leading to a school, community center, park and library. They wanted to try and tie in those elements as well as the community (The city of Surrey which is known for its parks and cultural diversity). All of the sculpture elements are based around that. I was shortlisted and made it to the top 5 but I didn't get the bid. It was a national call out so quite a few people bidding on it. I have my name in for a few others so hopefully at least one of them comes through

That's really nice. Too bad you didn't get the commission.

Thanks everyone, for the kind words and support. Much appreciated!
I had my hopes pretty high. Not only was I was very excited about making the piece, it was well into the 6 figure range so my whole year would have been made.
Because there are so few public art commissions, works is subjective etc it's always a bit of a tough gig. Especially as you get emersed in a concept. But even if one place rejects something someone else may go for it. My first year I submitted a piece and was rejected in favour of a large crate. Talk about disappointing! But then that same piece went on and has been leased by 6 different municipalities over the years, including the first one that rejected the piece.

You'll do fine, your work is so inspiring and well executed.

Replace by a crate? Bummer!

I remember the small town I grew up in, White Rock, named after the local volcanic pumice.
There was a time when a lot of artists wanted to have something at the town entrance.
All that was turned down in favor of a large white rock. They, for whatever reason, decided against a real block of pumice and instead used a large rock that they painted white. Perfect surface for constant graffiti wars.

Yes, I know that rock! lol  I had a piece on the promenade last year.

Yes, the piece that they chose was a large crate with a sign saying " coming soon". There was a dead forklift parked beside it. It was funny though, as all year people kept wondering when the big unveiling would be... lol. I just submitted the same piece the next year ( i wasn't going to waste any more time on a proposal for them) and they accepted it then
