Love uses of new or used corks like this.
I "inherited" a literal trunk full of new corks. My wife's late husband (not me!) brought them home when the winery he worked at shut down.
I found building using whole corks to be a pain. Went on line and saw a whole lot of methods for cutting them in half, which makes them easy to work with. A lot of those methods invoked the OMG reaction. Accordingly, I set out to come up with a better way. I came up with one, at least for those of us with bandsaws, and it's dirt simple.
I made a jig by drilling a hole in a piece of 2x just a bit bigger than the corks (new or swollen from hooch) and can pump out hundreds of halves in an hour. I posted the jig, build and use on the INSTRUCTABLES web site:
