Wine Cork Trivets

ive made many of these in the past but after the last batch i got rid of what corks  i had left. a good friend wanted me to make her some so i had to buy some corks ! found someone on ebay that sold used corks. each board holds 32 corks. the inner space is 7" square but next time ill go about 1/4" bigger so as not to have to do any trimming. the wood is mahogany with a masonite bottom. rubber feet and my logo coin. finish is 5 coats of gloss lacquer. corks are attached with hot melt glue. a simple project that makes a great gift.

Nice work and with the cork, they are really useful for hot dishes since the cork insulates

Good stuff Pottz. I made a ~2' x 3' bulletin board with a similar pattern. My daughter worked at a golf course one summer and brought a big box of corks home.

Nice gifts and good useful items.

Couldn't wait a week or two to re up on the corks? Could've cut the corks in half then would of had plenty. Looks like a lot of glue sticks got used

Those are great. My FIL used to make those as gift long ago, people love them!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Ya got me onto the plans of that endgrain  carcoal   charboiled   charlatan   charcoaled   chark... bloody cutting board... do you have any plans for empty vino casks

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

You sly, hypocritical old dog you Pottz... nearly had me fooled... This is just your attempt at making this puzzle,

with an extra level of difficulty, having a mind blowing 32 puzzle pieces.

Cute project....definately ''got to do'' cathegory.

Love uses of new or used corks like this.

I "inherited" a literal trunk full of new corks. My wife's late husband (not me!) brought them home when the winery he worked at shut down.

I found building using whole corks to be a pain.  Went on line and saw a whole lot of methods for cutting them in half, which makes them easy to work with. A lot of those methods invoked the OMG reaction. Accordingly, I set out to come up with a better way. I came up with one, at least for those of us with bandsaws, and it's dirt simple.

I made a jig by drilling a hole in a piece of 2x just a bit bigger than the corks (new or swollen from hooch) and can pump out hundreds of halves in an hour. I posted the jig, build and use on the INSTRUCTABLES web site:

Great use of corks! I have a bag full and might make some!

thanks jim. 32 per board or cut em in half like kelly does. they sell very well or gift em.
