Both bearings have done the same amount of work and rotations , I would replace it while you have it apart .

Yep, bearings are fairly cheap. I’d replace anything that might be worn while you are in there. If you do it right, right now, that planer will just shut up and do it’s job for many years. After all, woodworking is what you want to be doing, not machine repair.

I agree with the above and the new bearing could have a bad effect on the other old one, kind of like changing both headlight bulbs on your car at the same time.

Thanks, fellas, for all the advice. Now, which one of you will come over and struggle through removing the second bearing? LOL!

Sunny central Wisconsin eh….tempting!!

I would really love to drop by and help you, then go see my friend Mike with a tray for him but the reality is it will never happen……..as much as I would enjoy a world wind trip to do nothing but meet like minded people and enjoy the banter.

Sorry, Alabama is a long, long way away. I think you are really onto something with that auto hammer though

You can cancel your plans for a trip to sunny central Wisconsin (54 degrees today!) because I got the second bearing off all by myself (and the auto-hammer). Aside from a few inches of much-needed rain, we’re enjoying this unseasonably warm weather.
