Whether you spell it molding or moulding, this here is the perfect panel raiser for a wide board to float in a frame and panel cabinet door.

It cuts a moulding 2” wide by 5/8” deep. So you take some 3/4” stock (be it a board or glued-up panel) and cut in all four sides to make a 1/8” tongue on all four sides. Then the panel can float in a 1/8” groove on some stiles & rails.

I have been looking for a panel raiser for over a year and in the past 2 weeks have come into 4 of them now. When it rains it pours.

This is the widest of all raisers that I own now. It will be used soon in a tool cabinet build that is frame & panel construction with hand cut dovetails. Building a wall hanging plane till.

The profile itself, taking a Quick Look at it, appears to be a simple dropped Grecian Ogee. Not too complex, so maybe we just drop the “complex” portion of the name and call this a simple wide moulder.

ASIDE: The difference between a Grecian Ogee and a Roman Ogee (often simply referred to as an Ogee) is that the Romans based their curves off circles while the Greeks based theirs off ovals. So if you take a Roman Ogee and stretch it, you get a Grecian Ogee.
