Well, the first model in this series is complete and I will say that I have finally come to the conclusion that painting a model of this complexity is really time consuming. I am happy with the out come and have painted other models but for some reason this one just seemed to take more time and rework. I chose British Racing Green for the body. That was a very popular color for this "roadster" in the 20's and 30's. A side view with a few of the detail additions I made. The extra gas can was part of most of these vehicles and either Pratt or Redline was prevalent brands. I also added the hood vents and the radiator cap. I found a number of photos with that style ornament so in a small scale did a repro. Also I lasered "Dunlop" on the tire sidewalls. A better view of the sidewall laser. please ignore the dust. It shows up really well under lighting. Here's a Driver's side view with the spare and the rumble seat open. Front view with the AC added to the radiator. Try as I might, I could not get a satisfactory laser of the "SIX" that usually was present under the AC but I'm not done trying so it will either be on the next model or on both. we'll see. Here is a note for anyone building this: the large headlights sit in the holes drilled into the inner fender additions. Make sure the holes are drilled at the same angle, otherwise you will have to deal with non-symmetrical headlights. (Don't ask me how I know. I just do.)
Here's a rear view of the AC Six. The taillights are of the style seen on these autos in the '20. Not a lot of trouble to make.
Another view of the taillights. A better shot of the interior with redesigned steering wheel and the reconfigured dashboard. I was able to find a photo of an AC dash and used that as the model for the laser work.
So, that about finishes up this project. I am about 1/2 way done on the unpainted version and am definitely using some of the "education" I gained making this one. I think this is a really nice plan and the model is striking. The next version will incorporate Dutchy's gas tank and baggage rack. I can't begin to thank Jan enough for creating this plan. It was fun to build and wonderful to display. I'll add more to this blog as I continue on the other version. Hope you have enjoyed this journey and perhaps it provided some useful information along the way.
