I have a maple tree in my yard that last a large branch in its youth, and it was left with this large knot hole. I have been trying to come up with a decorative element to fill the space, and tried my hand a carving a face to fit the cavity. It is carved from western cedar and measures about 12 x 6 inches and is friction fit.
It has weathered two years of Minnesota summers and winters and is doing well.

""I have been trying to come up with a decorative element to fill the space" I say you found it in a mighty way, good work looks great.

Cool carving Jb,
Soon, if not by now, the face will become part of the tree.
Share some pics of it as it weathers through the years.
Thanks for posting.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.
