Project Information
part two of the bedroom redo, this slab of box elder is what was left making the floating night stands.total length is about 6 ft,15" wide 1-1/2" thick.bench height is 17".base is made from cherry.the drawers are recycled from the old night stands.drawers are box jointed with cherry ply bottoms.the through tenons were turned on the lathe and wedged with wenge for a nice contrast.all legs are assembled using the domino.the finish is general finishes oil based gel topcoat satin, love this stuff, may become my new go to finish, sorry sam.3 coats for the base and 4 for the top.i was able to do this project in a couple weeks due to the slab already being done and the reused drawers.here are a few build pic's,any questions or comments are welcome.and if anyone has some constructive suggestions please dont be afraid you will insult me this is how we learn and get better.i think many here are afraid to do that and only give the usual, thats beautiful, great job.

Creative,  and great work. You do have skills.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Beautiful bench, a lot of detail work went into this one. I like the idea of different wood for the seat part, really makes it stand out !!   Excellent job !!!   Mike
Interesting design Pottz, the top really stands out and goes well with the Cherry. The accents with the Wenge are wonderful. Well done.

Neat build Pottz, good design and workmanship. I like slab tops and the wedged tenons are great.

The stepped cross-bars are my favorite bit. I would’ve made it a bit taller though, as a 17” bench is too low for me to get up from reliably (without using my arms to push off something) when my knees are being unhappy.

May you have the day you deserve!

I like this a lot.  The stepped stretchers, the contrasting wood, the drawers on a bench, and the triple supports on each end.
My only thought for possible improvement would be for the top to overhang the front of the drawers by a wee bit more.  But that was probably not an option because the slab and drawers pre-existed.
Great design buddy 😃

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Interesting and eye appealing.   Like the design.   Nice work.
