Wine Bottle Balancers

I made some wine bottle balancers as Christmas gifts.  They are made from white birch and black walnut.  I decided on the length partly based on the size of the padded mailing envelopes available.

I played around with some scrap wood and decided that using 45 deg for both the bottom and the hole works fine.

They are surprisingly stable, but are not recommended for use with magnums.

Neat.  I want to try this!  What width and length did you use?

This was fun to do and there are so many possibilities in the design.

These are 10 1/2" long, 3 1/4" wide and 13/16" thick.  I drilled the holes with a 1 3/8" Forstner bit.

Sharp looking projects. I always wanted to know - Will the bottles only balance when they are full, or will it work at different empty levels ?  Good job !!!  Mike
Interesting project, and it looks really nice. The angle would be the hard part to figure out, I have seen them anywhere from 38* to 45* now. Makes you wonder which one would work better.

I tried with an empty bottle and it worked fine, so I imagine it would work with everything in between - as long as you put the cork back in!
