Ford HotRod C-Cab Ute/Pickup

I was given an offcut from a Blackwood slab by Liam of Goat Works in Penrith after he saw my SuperTee Fund Raiser HotRod which at first glance looked ordinary BUT wow after I machined and sanded it WOW, the figure and grain was gorgeous.

I sent a photo to Liam saying it's way too nice a piece of timber for a toy, BUT Liam said "CUT IT UP" and use it.

So the journey to this toy started.

I'd also been given some offcuts of some African Mahogany from "Four Hands Repair Shed" in Faulconbridge which seemed to complement the Blackwood well.

 Four Hands Workshop

The Blackwood was used for the engine, cab roof, side steps, exhaust stacks, rear mudguards and rear bump bar.

The African Mahogany was used for the cab sides and the tray sides.

I choice some very figured Cypress Pine flooring for the cab floor and tray floor.

The rear wheels are TallowWood with the front wheels some sort of misc Gum Tree.

The chassis is from Spotted Gum decking boards.

The quilted seats are Cedar Shingles with Blackwood Dash Panel.

The radiator is the under side of Merbau decking board with a strip of Ceylon Ebony from Ian [aka Chief Tiff] as the highlight on the engine.

The headlights are homemade from a macrame bead and Tassie Oak dowel while the rear lights are shop bought.

The beautiful Laser cut Ford badge/logo on the back is thanks to Alex [aka LBD] and the front badges are shop bought Lapel Pins.

This time the whole HotRod has been polished with Kustom Grit "Set1"

Overall measurements are 19.5" [495mm] x 12.5" [320mm] x 6.5" [165mm] which took well over 60hrs.

That was last big scratch build in the shed for at least the next couple of months as I have a much needed scheduled hip replacement.

Cheers Peter

I like the Hot Rods,
Nice.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

A very nice build Peter, great detail all around and in the cab. Well Done.

The usual high standard we've come to expect. Looks good and will make someone very happy me thinks....

Kerry - Working with wood, the smell the feel, is such a joy, its a meditation of sorts.

That's cool crowie...  Is this the one you and that Dutchman colluded with to get some plans on paper?

Martin is planning a show and sell forum... could be a prime candidate.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

No Alex, That was a C-Cab Tray Tip Truck.
This is my own scratch built design.
I did a similar one for a children’s charity fund raiser earlier in the year.
I’ll do a post on it later to show it.
