Project Information
here is our son- father collaboration, my son designed and built these benches for the martial arts gym he belongs to. he traded these for personal lessons. built out 3×4 doug fir with an alternating laminated pattern. the large black simpson screws are mostly to give the benches a rustic tough look,(its a fighting gym). he then burned the gyms name on each bench and stained with min wax wiping stain for a dark look. as a final finish a couple coats of wax. he did most of the design and construction I lent some advise and a lot of sanding, a real lot-lol.

The gym members won't be head-butting those to show off their skills I hope 😀

You don't get that much swarf even off a lathe.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Dandy Gym benches that look Good and built really strong to stand up to lot of tuff wear and tear.

Very nice and sturdy benches, nice work, especially with the father - son team. Since he effectively was paid for these, with lessons in trade, this is your son's first commission, cool.
ryan-thanks bud.
duckie-that wood was very green when he glued it up so there was a lot of uneven shrinkage, which meant,a lot of sanding !
rivers-yeah they should last forever.
OT-actually his first sale was the wine barrel table, but he only broke even on that one.his first lesson learned selling his work !
