shutters and plant shelves

Project Information
it was time to replace the cheap plastic shutters and blue painted pot shelves so i decided to go with african mahogany. these are made to hold your standard terracotta pots. they are screwed together with #15×4" ss const lags. the mahogony is 5/4 stained with general finishes oil based candlelight stain to deepen the wood, then coated with penofin exterior hardwood oil. the shutters are hung on a french cleat so when it's time to re oil i can just lift them off. the black faux strap hinges are from amazon. this was an easy two weekend build with a little extra time in between coatings of finish.

Those are really beautiful bud.
Living in CA sure has it advantages. Those shutters wouldn't last 2 years in KS.
Hope the crazy rain has been OK in your area.

thanks buddy. yeah ill give em a fresh coat of oil this spring and they'll look like brand new again. weve been getting a lot of rain which we badly need. normal for our area is about 15", two years ago we only had less than 4" last year was about 8". so far were over 7" so it's lookin real good.

For sure. I have a Kayu Batu (Red Balau) fence I put in about 10 years ago. Every two years it's time for the Messmer's Oil!

That looks great. It really frames the window nicely. Good idea to hang the shutters on French cleats.

thanks andy. yeah there gonna need maintenance so it makes it easy to remove for re oiling.
