Ratchet Candle Stand

Ratchet candle stand made of Wisconsin Cherry. I like to refer to this piece as my colonial dimmer switch … Hey, turn up the light! The ratchet mechanism allows for four height positions. The 4/4 side rails are mortised into the 8/4 base and through mortised into the rail at the top. The finish is a light coat of bee’s wax.

Interesting, but it looks cool, like the Cherry. Did you create a cross bracing on the bottom of the top to ensure it stays level when raised?

Thank you, Eric. Yes, the bottom cross brace helps to keep the top level when raised.

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

That's really nice Ron.  Simple, elegant, and functional.  Can't beat it 😀
I just ran across a similar design in a book I just bought about country furniture. I like it!

The old time reading light, set by the chair and move to the height that give the best light for reading.  I actually made one many years ago.  My daughter claimed it.  Mine was not as big as yours.
Ron, very cool.

Looks like a PA "dutch" design to me.
