Veneer Press

I built this from some online plans several years ago,   I don't use it often but it is very helpful for veneering and inlay work.

I recognize a few of those parts Albert. Handy unit to have for both vacuum bagging and vacuum pot stabilizing.
Yeah, looks a lot like mine even down to the plywood caddy.
I don’t use it much any more because I now use HHG and often hot cauls but I keep it around for big jobs that won’t fit in my press.

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

I built the newer version of that last year, specifically for vacuum clamping, but I’ve got a couple projects in my head that I’d like to play around with veneer on (since I’ve never done it properly). Gotta grab a bag and some breather mesh…

There is also a manual system available, I have one an have had excellent results from it when using it on curved surfaces.

There is a on line tutorial available on the website.

Cool Albi...

I have a vacuum pump I bought for stabilising wood... However, few blogs seem to cover the bag or the suction attachment to it.

I had one of those... saw the vide and brought back nightmares remembering trying to evacuate the air...

Bought some roller blades so I didn't have to skate board, which allowed me to throw that sucker out.

FAIW, I did use it on SAKOF,

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

I think it uses a wine bottle vacuum pump! ... sorry to hear you tossed it!

Regards Rob

I bet he tossed it because the bottle pump kept collapsing the wine boxes.

Nice thing about a pump with the switch is the pump only runs when needed.
That’s the impressive part of the Venturi kit I bought. It’s got a vacuum regulating switch so it only passes air when it needs to refresh the vacuum. And it’s got a couple PVC storage tanks to create a buffer. It does require you to put some umph into the assembly to be sure it’s as air tight as you can get it. Any leaks are noticeable in how often the system cycles. I’m pretty impressed with its efficiency though!

Real handy tool in the shop for many things
