Kumiko table lamp

Kumiko pattern is called square dance.  Kumiko is made with basswood and a bit of white ash for strength. Legs are walnut. Fairly challenging to construct kumiko halflaps and to connect all five panels. Panels have rice paper on the inside to provide lampshade effect. Fun project. It makes a great soft ambient room light.

Awesome! Learning basic kumiko is on my short list right now.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

just beautiful. welcome to craftisian. keep it coming.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

That is a great lamp, the Kumiko looks really nice. Never though about using any Ash for strength, they say a straight closed grain for the patterns, but I guess that the Ash would work, just need to fill the grain.

Thanks for the compliment. The ash was used to support the edges of the Kumiko and provide structure for the legs and light fixture.
Wow cool! It's always on my to-make list.

Beautiful job.  Something very calming about the kumiko.
Yes, the combination of Kumiko and rice paper make a very soothing room light. Thanks
This is an excellent way to display kumiko! The light and shadows add a lot of depth.
Thanks Steve. Like your work also!

I missed this one. Peak this one is so complex. How did you attach the panels to the sides?

I may attempt one some day.
Very cool and excellent work!

Can you describe what form of light source is used?
Peak,

Great lamp, I can see a lot of effort there.
